How To Install Malayalam Font On Your Old Android Phone or Tablet [Root Required]

If you own an old Android phone running ICS or any old version of Android, you might not be able to read Malayalam on your device. Some Samsung phones come with Malayalam pre-installed but that's not the case with other manufacturers like Sony, HTC and LG.

First you need to root your phone. Google or Check xda-developers forum for tutorials specific to your phone model.

Now install ES File Explorer and turn Root Explorer ON

Download Malayalam Font - Click Here

Rename the Anjali NewLipi Light font to DroidSansFallback

Copy the font to your SD Card.

Locate the font using ES File Explorer and copy it

Now navigate to root folder and locate fonts folder /Device/System/fonts

Paste the copied font there. You will be asked if you want to overwrite it. Click YES.

Now restart your device.

Now Malayalam is rendered well on your device. Enjoy!

Tested on Sony Xperia 2011 model devices.
